Austria – Enjoy its rich heritage.

Austria’s neighbors are Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The capital of Austria is Vienna. This is a relatively small country. Some of the many things to see in Vienna are the numerous palaces. Some palaces worthy of mentioning is the Hofburg Palace, the Belvedere Palace and the Schonnbrun Palace. When touring these and also the other palaces, please make sure to take a guided tour. This is because one could easily miss the more important facts about these palaces because of the sheer volume of beautiful things to see and learn. Make sure to try the coffee and sweets at Demel's, the city's most famous coffee shop.

Another attraction in Vienna is the Spanish Riding School. This riding school trains horses and riders according to centuries old tradition. On one hand, Salzburg is Mozart's hometown. One can see traces of the great musician in the town. Salzburg is also known for an area called Salzburg's Old Town. This is a walk only area and one can roam around freely.

In addition to the must- see- places in Salzburg's Old Town are the Cathedral Square and Residenz Palace. The latter was the home of the Prince Archbishops of Salzburg. The Getreidegasse is the street where Mozart lived with his family. His family home is number 9 and it is now a small museum dedicated to the artist. Now, Getreidegasse is a shopping delight.

A two-time host for the Winter Olympics, Innsbruck is a beautiful place for skiing and winter holidaying. One would be awestruck by the beautiful scenery at Innsbruck. There are 25 villages available for your holiday stay.

Graz is another beautiful old town in Austria. Cleverly preserved to make one feel like one has gone back in time, Graz has narrow cobbled lanes and beautiful courtyards. Places to see and go to in Graz are the Chateua Eggenberg and the Italian Landhaus. The Glockenspieplatz is a marvelous clock tower in Graz, another must see.

Austria is also home to many famous people, one of which is Mozart. One can find many museums and other links to Mozart in Austria. Mozart lived in Salzburg with his family. His family home is now a museum. Another famous personality who hails from Austria is Sigmund Freud. One can find a museum dedicated especially to this famous man. One might remember the movie, The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. This movie was filmed entirely in Austria where beautiful Austrian Alps were featured in the beginning and end of the movie.
